95 Pounds of Hope by Anna GavaldaI like 95 Pounds of Hope because the main character has some of my characteristics and does one of my favorite things, woodworking. 95 Pounds of Hope is about a boy who is thirteen and is in the sixth grade and has gotten held back twice. The boy's name is Gregory, and he hates school and gets many detentions. He has a grandfather he calls Grampa Leon. Gregory is gifted because he comes up with brillant ideas that can someday change the world.Reviewed by CameronInto the Gauntlet by Margaret Peterson HaddixInto the Gauntlet is the ninth book in the 39 Clues Series. The book is about the six teams in the clue hunt looking for the final clue. The 39th Clue, which must be mixed with all the other ingredients to make a potion, will give anyone who drinks it strategy, leadership, athletic skills, artistic talent, amazing knowledge, inventing skills, and the ability to easily fool, convince, and trick others. I like this book because it includes the genre of mostly every book ever written: action, comedy, and mystery. From moments that will make you laugh so hard you can't breathe to amazing fights to puzzles you probably can't solve... Two more characteristics are horror and tragedy with breathtaking plunges to characters worrying that they are going to get shot by their own relatives. In the book, characters have tried to kill each other more than once. Madeleine Masterson is deathly afraid of bugs, especially spiders. Theodore Bartholomew is petrified of dying. Luly Punchalower is scared of confined spaces. Garrison Feldman is terrified of deep water. Which is why this may be the scariest summer of their lives. Worse than detention or summer school even worse than the orthodontist. The foursome must face their phobias at the exclusive and elusive School of Fear. The school is unusual to say the least, but terrifying would be a more accurate description. The curriculum is simple: Conquer you fears in six weeks or find out just how frighting failing can be. I like School of Fear because it is funny and a little scary at the same time. The author is Rachel Renee Russell. It is mainly about a girl named Nikki that is having problems when the Halloween dance is coming up. She is planning to go with her friends which is a plan she thinks will backfire. But when her crush asks her if she wants to go to with him, she thinks they will understand. She decides that she has to lie to them so they won't feel bad. Then she's asked to go to a little girl's party. When she tries to go with everyone, the little kids from the party come looking for her while she's at the dance and the principal has to stop the dance to find out who let them in. The bully tells the principal that Nikki let them in. Suddenly, Nikki bursts out the door, sits on a bench outside, and starts crying. When her crush comes to comfort her and asks her if she wants to go back to dance, she thinks he might think they're together!Reviewed by Dabne11 Birthdays By Wendy Mass11 Birthdays is about Amanda and Leo. They were born on the same day and Angelina was with them on their third birthday. She planted an apple seed with them, so they wouldn't get into a problem that their great grandparents got in. Leo talked about Amanda and she got mad and threw the plant on their 10th birthday. On their 11th birthday, their 11th birthday happened 11 times. The evidence points right to Mud. Vern and Michael overheard a telephone conversation that someone is out to kill them. I like this book because of the following reason: 1. It has mystery in it. 2. Mud Blossom is interesting. 3. I like dogs and hamsters.Reviewed by AshantiThe Vipers Nest by Peter LerangisThe story starts with two kids, Dan and Amy, with their Au Pair, Nellie, and their Uncle Alstair sailing in the Java Sea. The ship is damaged and they wash on shore. Alstair ends up being arrested by a fake cop following recent events. A woman from the Lucian Branch is out to get them while they are trying to find the Tomas Clue. The reason why I like this book is there are lots of close calls for Amy and Dan. Dan is wondering if they can trust Alstair. Alstair really gets me to thinking, and the author does not give any clues as to what is going to happen in the story.
