Books We Like
Magyk
By Angie Sage
This is the best book I've EVER read. As you turn the pages of the book, you go along on adventures with the Heap family and other much-loved characters. The good news is, there are five other books in the series, and one yet-to-be-written. I can't wait for the seventh book to come out!

Cam Jansen series
By David Adler
The Cam Jansen series is one of the best ever. I love the mysteries. The books are written with such detail. I think you will like them, too.
The 39 Clues Series
by various authors
This book series is an innovative leap into multi-medium learning. Kids can read the exciting and mysterious series, collect game cards, and explore online content as they piece together the same mystery that the main characters in the book are discovering. When they do this, they gain real historical and geographical knowledge, and can enter to win real prizes!

Dinosaur Hunter
By Elaine Marie Alphin
After reading this book, my son was inspired. He wants to make his own dinosaur bones, collect brushes to excavate them, and turn our house into a museum. This book is great for dinosaur fans and easy for young children to read.
Baseball's Best
by Andrew Gutelle
This book is a great introduction to some of baseball's greatest players. The historical men featured in this book are the heroes of the game, and this short chapter book does a great job of introducing a new generation of baseball fans to their legacy. From Babe Ruth to Joe Dimaggio, these are players that not only every ballplayer, but every American, should know and love.
Winning Every Day
by Lou Holtz
This motivational book will teach you what it really means to WIN and how attitude can truly effect one's circumstances. Holtz gives examples from football and life, distilling wisdom from a variety of sources. With his quirky humor, this former Notre Dame football coach can make any reader into a believer.

Redwoods
by Jason Chin
This book is a treasure! Gorgeous watercolor illustrations tell a fantastic story of a boy's journey from city to forest, while the text informs the reader succinctly about the forest and trees themselves. Perfect for a home library or the classroom, I hope Mr. Chin delights us with more books in this style.
The Tail of Emily Windsnap
by Liz Kessler
This is a great story because it is so mysterious! My favorite part is Emily's first day of swimming lessons when something happens! That's how this story begins. I loved it, and you will too!

The Host
by Stephenie Meyer
After devouring the Twilight series, I was hesitant to read this because I worried that it would pale in comparison. However, this book turned out to be extraordinarily compelling. Stephenie Meyer's underlying theme of the ultimate power of love rang true once again. As with the Twilight series, I simply couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it, and not just to Twilight fans!

Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young
by Jack Prelutsky
These short rhymes about everyday objects and events will interest and entertain the youngest of children and prep them for a lifelong love of poetry. Familiar poets and friendly illustrations make this compliation complete. As Jim Trelease tells us, "Unlike the toys we buy our children, poems cannot break."
Where the Sidewalk Ends
by Shel Silverstein
If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer . . .
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For we have some flax golden tales to spin.
Come in!
These funny, gross, sad, and thought-provoking poems are as relevant today as ever. Read them aloud and share the love of the spoken word with the children in your life.
Dear Deer
By Gene Barretta
This book is a playful introduction to homophones. It is perfect for children just learning about spelling and definitions. Since reading this book, my kids have been enjoying playing with words in many ways. Cute and clever, with Dear Deer, you cant go wrong.
The Time Hackers
By Gary Paulsen
Teenager Dorso Clayman has a problem. Someones been filling his school locker with the most disgusting things imaginable; one time, he looked inside and found half dead lab rats and smelly cadavers. Making this seventh grader's life even stranger are the holograms of historical characters that keep appearing and staring at him. Dorsos best friend, Frank, says hes just dreaming these things up. But, when Frank gets thrown to the ground by a woolly mammoth from the Ice Age, he starts believing Dorsos far-fetched claims. Pick up this book for a fast read and a dizzying journey through the ages.

Eleven Birthdays
By Wendy Mass
This story of friendship and magic had me on the edge of my seat. I loved all the twists and turns. I never knew what would happen next. I had a lot of fun guessing what the title meant. The author made me feel like Amanda and Leo were real. Eleven Birthdays was one of the best books I have ever read.
